snakes 0 #1 August 17, 2003 Hi I've post here some general questions before about tandems. I'm 20 years old and live in Belgium. Did my first jump (tandem) a few months ago, I loved, so short after that I started my static line course. First few jumps went well, so on jump 5 started with dummy's. Misted the first 2 ( reached to far in the hurry). Had a 2 nd 1/2 months break (school, youth movement (don't know for sure if that's a right term in English)). This weekend I returned to my DZ (zwartberg, Belgium) on saterday I pulled 2 dummy's, so on sunday it could be my last static line jump... On sunday, I arrived at the DZ and the plane was waiting for me ;-) .... Got my material and a briefing and we went up. Again I had a succesfull dummy, so I was ready for my first hop n pop. I got a new rig (from static- to "freefal"-rig), and went up the next load. It were other nerves than usually (pretty normal i guess Wasn't planning to jump again that day ( bad weather was comming). But there was a last load and there was room for one more jumper or passenger. So I decided to do another one. I got my jumpsuit on, rig and other stuff on, we went up, and I got to exit first (the rest of the load was going higher). In briefing I was told to wait a little longer to pull and pay more attention on the good arch and keeping that arching-position in the second before the pull. My specific "problem" was that I didn't brought my hands at my head when I jumped off (before pulling) and that I pulled right away (when I exited), so I would focus on that. That went well, but I missed my "handle"... So I had too reach again (did that pretty quick after I missed it before, so there was no panic or so...). But this had as result that I wasted my bodypostion and I was "twisted" around a bit (not on my back or so , I was still in the "between horrizontal and vertical position" but I almost made a full 360)... Had a good opening ( in spite of the twist that I made while pulling, there was nog twist in the lines) and had a safe landing.... So next time I'll focus on these issues , but in the meantime I'll cherish the good memories to this weekend and I'll search for another extra job before going back to school at the end of september, so I have extra money to "waste"( while jumping ... And while driving home , my face was filled constantly with a big because of the new experience (and also the good music on the radio ) ... Yeah !
