bigfritz 0 #1 August 9, 2003 Hi, I'm Tom, I just turned 16 and I made my very first tandem jump yesterday at the Parachute Center in Acampo (Lodi) with my bro and my dad. We all loved it! Me and my brother are going to start skydiving with my dad, a long time skydiver just getting back into the sport. Tomorrow, me and my bro are taking the static line (10 jump) course to get off student status so we can jump solo with our dad. I'm very excited to be a part of the sport! =] Well anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself. =] I'll definitely be hangin out here a lot to learn more about skydiving. Does anyone know any informative beginner websites that will teach me what everything is and all that good stuff? Right now I'm interested in learning what all the different parachute gear is and what would be the best for me. We're planning on buying 2 sets of gear for me and my bro, and 1 for my dad who is a more experienced jumper. Catch ya later, Tom ------------------------ Freefly, baby. skymama 37 #3 August 9, 2003 Welcome to the forums! As far as your question about training, I think this website is a great place to start. Don't just read the forums, click on all the other pages as well. The USPA website is a good one also. You also might want to buy a copy of the book, "The Skydiver's Handbook". It is chock-full of information for a newbie. You can see it on this link. Good luck with your progression! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
bigfritz 0 #4 August 18, 2003 Cool, thanks for the info, Andrea! =] I just finished my static line course. I made 3 solo jumps from 13,500 today. Holy crap, it ruled!! I did left and right turns, backflips, and frontflips pretty good and got stable right after. I tried to stand up straight and I got all out of control so I arched and got back into a good position. I flipped on my back, rolled up into a ball, and did a lot of other funky stuff just to see what would happen. It was defnitely the most fun I've had in a day in a long long time! I'm going back to the DZ on Friday to jump some more, and then again on Sunday to take my Mom for a tandem jump! =] Fun stuff!! It felt so great jumping out of that twin otter at 13,500ft. So free. =] ------------------------ Freefly, baby.
slotperfect 7 #5 August 18, 2003 Hi Tomm, and welcome to the forums! Congrats on the completion of your training . . . you guys are really a jumping family! Like Skymama, I my oldest child is 12, and is dying to jump. Meanwhile he hangs out at the DZ with me, as does his sister. You can find a used copy of the Skydivers Handbook on eBay quite often. C Ya!Arrive Safely John
