hodgesjn 0 #1 April 7, 2004 I was wondering the proper sotrage method for gear. I am leaving on an extended assignment and wont be able to jump for the next two years. How should I store my rig?? I figured I should open the main and pop the reserve. I also figured I should chop the main to prevent the memory sitting two years would create. I dont have a Cypres so that isnt a problem. Am I close here? Is there any thing else I missed?
piisfish 140 #2 April 7, 2004 don't you want to rent your rig to someone ?? otherwise, everything seems fine (to me) with a cool and DRY storage...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

You are right on the money. Also remove rubber bands/tube stows from main deployment bag. Store in a breathable container/kit bag. Also store in a climate controlled location (temp/humidity, etc.). darkwing 5 #4 April 7, 2004 If I was going to be out of it for 2 years I'd sell my stuff now, and buy when I came back. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
Spatula 0 #5 April 7, 2004 Holy crap! You should sell your gear to me!!! I need a rig.....and yours sounds perfect!!! Wanna sell???
EricTheRed 0 #6 April 7, 2004 I'd 2nd this. It's just going to depreciate no matter how you store it. Cash out. If you are smart and can afford to (which you can if you can afford to store it) put the $$ in a CD or buy some short term bond. When you get back - new gear! hodgesjn 0 #7 April 7, 2004 I just bought the stuff though and I really like it!!
hodgesjn 0 #8 April 7, 2004 I just got it myself!! It took forever to find it and pick it out. It was really hard to find the Big boy rig so I finally just went to Mirage in Deland and they helped me put it together, all BRAND NEW! I cant part with it yet, it only has like 30 jumps on it!! LawnDart21 0 #9 April 7, 2004 I have a few canopies that I don't get to jump very often, and I have each one in a cotton (don't ask why, it's just soft....lol) pillow case.I just do sort of a loose roll/stuff combo, and then litely daisy chain the lines on the top, and then tie off the pillow case. Cotton breathes, and I havent had any problem leaving them in my closet for extended periods of time at approx 65 degrees room temp year round. -- My other ride is a RESERVE. hodgesjn 0 #12 April 8, 2004 I guess I could but I am going to Egypt and there are no active drop zones there... I would just end up stpring it over there and I dont really have that much room.
Skyflyer1 0 #13 April 8, 2004 What about in Tunisia (Pink Skyvan) or Isreal, or Popping over to Greece or Italy. I think all those places have dropzones (don't know distances of area of all). Jonathan
