Should untrained civilians jump out of high rise buildings with parachutes?

Recommended Posts

My name is Eric. I am not a skydiver - although hope to try it some day. I am doing research on non-conventional uses of parachutes, so I thought that I would ask the pros here at Dropzone.

My questions are: would you recommend that a person caught in a high rise fire use a parachute with a static line to escape the building if one was available? Is he likely to survive without prior training?

Hi Eric-

I remembered that we all talked about this soon after 9/11, so I did a search for you. Here are 2 threads that I found:

Hi Eric,

Welcome to the Forums.

You might want to post this kind of question in one of the other forums, where it might be more appropriate.

I've also searched around for some discussions on this topic. There were several discussions amongst the BASE jumpers on BLiNC a while back. Have a look at:

For information on purchasing a system, visit Basic Research and click on HOPE (High Office Parachute Escape) System. There are several other manufacturers who sell this kind of gear as well.
