karenmeal 0 #1 March 26, 2004 So my risers are getting pretty old now.. actually way too old. I have a brand new free pair of triple risers sitting around the house, so I may as well start jumping with them.. I guess.. What are the pros and cons of it? I'm not expecting to lengthen my swoop.. but I may as well switch over. What are the reasons that some people love triple risers, why do some people dislike them? Once you get used to flying triple risers, is it pretty much the same? And finally.. on triple risers.. are rear riser landings just as easy? or do they complicate them? thanks for the input. -Karen "Life is a temporary victory over the causes which induce death." - Sylvester Graham

Hopefully he'll contribute to this thread, but if not you could search the swooping forum as I know he's mentioned it there in the past. hookitt 1 #3 March 26, 2004 Hey Karen, Sew up the triples, I've used them for years and have reverted back to regulars. It's very easy to convert them to regular risers.Rear riser landings are quite doable but it's much easier with standard risers. I do prefer triples in regular flight but since I've changed to standard I don't even notice any more.My grammar sometimes resembles that of magnetic refrigerator poetry... Tonto 1 #4 March 26, 2004 Hey Karen, I recently thanged from tripples to standard for the same reasons after 3000 dives. My hands still do wierd little adjustments on the swoop that I now KNOW have no effect, but it's a habit. I've only JUST started rear riser flares after a year getting into front riser turns, and standard risers just take your hands to where they need to be. Tim's advice of converting is the way to go. Free new risers, and no compormise. tIt's the year of the Pig.
USPA 0 #5 March 26, 2004 I don't do rear riser landings so I can't comment on that. For flight itself, I love the trips. Bigger control range and feel alot more free. First jumps are scary, because you have the feeling falling out of your harnas, and you suddenly see your steerling line in front of you in some manouvers. (Fuck that isn;t supposed to be there!! Oh wait... it is... ).The trouble with skydiving; If you stink at it and continue to jump, you'll die. If you're good at it and continue to jump, you'll see a lot of friends die... karenmeal 0 #6 March 26, 2004 I'm guessing the feeling is similiar to a BASE w/out a slider? I'll probably put a jump or two on them and sew em back up this weekend. Bosveld 0 #7 March 26, 2004 When asking master swoopers from my club why the didn't jump triple risers they told me this. People have already really said all to be said, but I thought I'd sum it up. Reason why people prefer triple risers is because: If you pull down the slider the toggle goes almost directly from your hand to the attachment point on the canopy. Normal risers has to go to the back riser first and then to the canopy. But only if you pull down the slider, otherwise it has to go through the slider any way and triple risers has no effect. That gives greater maneuverability when flying or landing on toggles. (check when people flare with hands in weird places like next to them they almost always have triples or had at some stage) Next time you see someone land with triple risers try and check where their brake lines go. Reason for people preferring normal risers: If you are doing back riser landings with triple risers, they are harder to find and you might accidently get hold of one triple and one rear which won't be pretty! They are also easier and quicker to pack. If you are doing back riser landings, I'm pretty sure everybody would advise you to do the sewing thing on the triples. Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, will be true!
