There exists a book on closing different reserve containers...

Recommended Posts

But am having a hard time finding it. I have a bunch of different owners manuals for closing different reserves, but have heard (possibly paragear, but cant find it there) has a binder/book that contains the closing instructions for all the differnet containers out there in one neat book. MY fiance is working on her ticket as we speak, and I'd like to get it for her (less she keep stealing my manuals.....lol). Thanks, Tom

The only reason I see getting the Source book is for packing older gear. If you will be packing things like Vector2's, Sweethogs, Phantom reserves, Navy conicals... its got all those manuals too.

Ah! Phreezone, how young you are! Hah! Hah!

"Older gear" means Strato-Star mains, Greene Star containers, Phoenix reserves and, Sentinel AADs.

Seriously, the Riggers Source Book is like a US$600 collection of three ring binders containing every older container imaginable. I have a similar collection in my loft but rarely use it.
On a day-to-day basis I only use the dozen most recent manuals in my filing cabinet. Half those manuals were printed off the internet.

Yep... I'm a young kid.. but I still have a Swift 5 cell repack in my riggers book logged :P

In all seriousness, most that gear is'nt old by any strech, but the manufactors no longer have manuals for it on their website so unless you already have that manual you can't pack the gear. That can be a plus in that you can have a very valid reason for not packing gear that you feel should be retired.

I have one i made myself. It's got all the currently used mainstream containers in there, and even a few old ones... Do the research online and make your own. If you can do it while at work, thats a bonus.

My wife got me the 'Rigger's Source Book' for Christmas, several years ago. It's been invaluable to me. I also check up-dates on the web and make copies of anything new. There is still a lot of that 'old stuff' out there... especially among pilots.

How do we gracefully convince pilots to retire their oldest and rattiest rigs?

I can quote CSPA's policy on testing every orphaned round cnaopy for acid mesh - and charge them a few extra dollars every test.

I can quote GQ Defense's policy on grounding any of their products after 15 years.

I can refuse to repack any round without a diaper, or refuse to repack low-speed canoies owned by pilots of high-speed airplanes .... but let's face it, some of those good-old-boys are just stubborn tightwads.

Suggestions?

Hey, Rob!

I really had to laugh at what you said! How true, how true! As a matter of fact, I just had to tell a pilot, about an hour ago that I would not be able to pack his rig, due to it's age (30yrs.) After hearing the 30-yr history of the rig, he flatly stated that he understood, thanked me for being straight-up with him and asked me where he could get another one.
I'm still a little woozy... too easy! Sometimes, we get lucky!
