Dumpster 0 #1 March 15, 2004 Did a search - Most of the feedback on these containers has been very positive. I'm wondering what the more recent opinions on the Icon has been. Any cutaways? Reserve deployment issues? Comfort? Fit? How does your rigger like repacking it? How has Aerodyne done on delevery times? There are no Icons at our DZ (yet). Everyone here is Javelin, Vector, Wings, etc. So I'd be the first kid on the block with an Icon. Canopies - Pilot or Sabre2? Thanks in advance to all! Looking forward! -Lenny Easy Does It
Tonto 1 #2 March 15, 2004 I don't jump an ICON, and I'm not a rigger. I've seen a bunch of ICON's at our DZ now (I'm in SA) and they look OK. The features they offer should come with a higher quality build though, but I guess that's how you offer those features for a lower price than everyone else. Some components look cheap, like the ends of the cutaway housings, and the secondary riser covers. I'm not mad about the ICON logo on the back, since it's asymetrical and so makes the rig look odd from the back, but that's only my opinion. Those that ordered them seem very pleased. I'm sure you will be too. The rings at the hips that are a standard feature have only 3 attachment points, and that seems to compromise fit a little more than the 4 connection point harnesses common with other manufacturers, and the rings are not at all padded. Having said all that, I still think it offers value for money. I think that their canopies are of far higher design and build quality than the harness. I'd go pilot over Sabre 2 anyday, and have ordered a 132 specifically for a wingsuit rig I'm building. tIt's the year of the Pig.
dgskydive 0 #3 March 15, 2004 Delivery is right on time so far. We just started getting them in last week. The canopies (especially the Pilot) are great! I would recommend it to anyone. I wrote a review last year. It's up in the classifieds.Dom
tattoojeff 0 #4 March 16, 2004 there cutaway and rerserve pillow handles are the best ive seen. very comfortable in the hand no chance of slipping off. i agree with the opinion about the ends of the cable housings being cheep looking. other than being a little bubbly looking they seem fine. if its a money thing consider an infinity which is similar in price maybee even cheaper and is time tested. kelly makes one hell of a nice rig. i got mine a few months ago with all options exept tyedye for $1326.00!!!!! tattoojeff 0 #5 March 16, 2004 I'd go pilot over Sabre 2 anyday< . really? have you flown both? thats a bold staement lol;)
aubsmell 0 #6 March 16, 2004 Not to come in too much on the defensive, but the cable housings that we use are the same ones used by RWS, Sunpath, Wings, almost every one, the only one I can think of who uses different ends is Mirage, they use a higher quality metel die cast end fitting. However I've never heard of any safety related issues with the AMP 40-50's that everyone else, including Aerodyne uses. Now I'll butt right back out.....so that this can be objective."Those who say it cannot be done, should not interrupt those who are doing it"
Jimbo 0 #7 March 17, 2004 Quotethere cutaway and rerserve pillow handles are the best ive seen. very comfortable in the hand no chance of slipping off. The Infinity cutaway and reserve (pillow) handles are pretty damn nice too. After living with the floppy, no stuffing, no feel Sunpath handles for three years, the big, builky, easy to find, easy to grab handles on the Infinity were a _VERY_ welcome change. I was pretty bummed as I watched my reserve handle float away in Puerto Rico. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed. Dumpster 0 #8 March 17, 2004 I beleive there are AMP 40-50's on my Racer, too - I beleive I'll be going with the Icon and Pilot, now all I have to do is find out what dealer has the sweetest deal! And pick colors for the rig. Then wait hopefully not too long - Easy Does It
Tonto 1 #9 March 17, 2004 Quotereally? Yes. That's why I said it. Quotehave you flown both? Yes. That's why I said it dispite the fact that my current canopy is made by PD. Quotethats a bold staement lol;) And that's your opinion, which I respect. tIt's the year of the Pig.

After living with the floppy, no stuffing, no feel Sunpath handles for three years, < < your so right! my other rig is a javelin and i could never understand how such a great company can have the WORST pillows. i feel incredibly confidant with infinity's pillows. karlm 0 #13 March 18, 2004 Jumped the Icon (I4) with a 132 Vision and 135 Smart Reserve during the December Boggie in Cape Town South Africa. I found the harness to be comfortable and easy wearing, with the standard padded back it sits nice. The articulated rings on the hips, worked great, and the harness was comfortable while under canopy. It may not be the best looking rig, but then again it's not always about looks. I was very impressed with the added safety features that come standard with the Icon. The only few comments I have heard from those who have bought them are. The leg straps seem to be a bit on the short side. Seems there is no cushion. But they have been looking into that. A few have ordered the Icon (I3) and tried to squeeze a 135 Smart into it, so the reserve pack looks big and bulky. No mals of yet, our riggers found the Smart easy to pack and rigger friendly. As for Pilot vs Sabre. Tonto is not the only person who has made that statement. I did about 15 jumps on a Pilot 168 and was impressed. A member of out National Team who has jumped Sabres for the past few years, said that he sees this as being of the same if not better quality and flight dynamics as the Sabre. So far all that have jumped either the Vision or Pilot have come back with nothing but good reviews. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there. ernokaikkonen 0 #14 March 19, 2004 QuoteHowever I've never heard of any safety related issues with the AMP 40-50's that everyone else, including Aerodyne uses. I remember an issue with the grommets on the housing end having a sharp edge and damaging the three-ring closing loop on some Vortex2's. I think it was about a year or two ago. I never saw a rig with the problem myself, so they may have been using different housings before the problem was discovered. Here's a post on the issue
