dgm458 0 #1 March 11, 2004 Purchased some used gear this past week. It's at the rigger now getting inspected and repacked. What can everyone tell me about the gear itself...not seeking opinion on wingloading, just the gear. Container is a Racer, DOM 1998. Cypress DOM 1996. Main is a Raider 220, DOM 1987. Reserve is Firelite 175, DOM 1993. I weigh 180 lbs. I've been "educated" that the Racer is not a good container for freeflying, but is rather intended for belly to earth type freefall. Suits me fine for now. I just want my own gear to jump and I couldn't afford too much. Got a family, 2 kids, 2 week vacation to Hawaii in July, and house payment starts in June. Money is TIGHT. I know nothing about the canopies other than they are manufactured by Flight Concepts. What is their performance like? Thanks to all...David
skybytch 273 #2 March 11, 2004 The reserve is too small for your exit weight. It is not reinforced like modern designs (ie PD, Smart) and was not designed for wingloadings over about 1.0. The main is an all F111 nine cell. Nothing special but it'll get you in the air. I've owned and jumped Racers. They're nice rigs. Keep the velcro in like new condition and you can freefly with it. Jimbo 0 #3 March 11, 2004 What Lisa said is dead on. It's a good first rig, you'll get a lot of mileage out of it. - Jim"Like" - The modern day comma Good bye, my friends. You are missed.
slug 1 #4 March 11, 2004 Do you know how many jumps on the raider. IMO the age isn't a problem it's the number of jumps and tender loving care it's recieved. There's a lot of gear around that wasn't used very much. Might want to be prepared to do a PLF on the first jump just in case it's "well used". Enjoy! R.I.P. theskydiveguy 0 #5 March 11, 2004 Do a hop 'n pop up high (5000') and play with the canopy! I jumped a Raven 2 with my first rig and the 3rd jump it blew up on opening! Made a cool ripping sound! Have fun with the new gear! ~Jeff
JJohnson 0 #6 March 11, 2004 Well, you will come to find out that the Racer is about the most comfortable rig you will ever wear....and if the velcro is good, you can freelfly in it. If it does not have it done to it already, I'd get walrus teeth sewn on the main flap to make it better for sit flying.JJ "Call me Darth Balls"
dgm458 0 #7 March 14, 2004 I don't know how many jumps on the main. I only know of one on the reserve. The previous owners name and city are on the reserve so I plan to try to contact him and ask. Unutsch 0 #8 March 15, 2004 can't tell you anything about the reserve or the container, but i owned an old raider 220, and liked it very much... hehe, it wasn't in a great shape, to be completely hones, it was pretty fucked up (as far as the fabric is concerned)... but sill, it flew a OK, had the nicest and gentlest openings i ever experienced... but be prepared for some PLFs, especially in no wind conditions... and try to flare it a bit higher then usual with a ZP canopy... HAVE FUN!!! Check out the site of the Fallen Angels FreeflY Organisation: http://www.padliangeli.org
