FJC's for UK Jumpers

Recommended Posts

Most companies / individuals are doing a decent service in releasing new jumpers back into our small island with a nice polite attitude toward BASE.......

Some companies / individuals are releasing complete arseholes back into our small island with a shit attitude toward us and toward BASE

Dont just think of your short time cashflow....... think about us that have to deal with the cunts on return... No BASE Jumper will suggest a FJC from you to a newbie if your last student was a complete twat........... your last student will either make you more money or cost you more money................

Mac,

Firstly I am neither an instructor, nor have I a vested interest in a FBJ company. Your 'gripe' is a little thin on details, so I can only 'assume' that a UK skydiver came over to the States, did a FBJC, returned to the UK and you think he/she is an 'asshole'. Well, I doubt the course turned him/her into said 'asshole' - I would suggest that the original 'product' was probably flawed. I have attended one of these FBJCs and, in my opinion, because of the 'control' involved, the 'asshole' does not come to the surface. Once you have given someone the tools, it is not possible to control individual's actions - unless you are proposing a BASE licensing system so one can weed out the jumpers the committee does not like/agree with. In summary, I think your criticism of individual instructors or FBJC companies might be harsh since it sounds to me that the indiviudual you are referring to had most likely the shortfalls you disagree with before he came over here. If you feel that strongly about it, write to the company and the individual and tell them that, in your opinion, they have been careless - they probably don't even know who you are referring to, so this post might be a little 'weak' on potential impact.

I'm fairly certain that Mac has spoken with the FJC instructors, and also that they are not in the US.

You do have a good point, which can be summed up like this: Even the best instruction in the world can't teach someone not to be an idiot.

The only reasonable approach to this I've found for teaching FJC's is to screen applicants in advance, and just not take people on a course who I don't think are going to do well upon their return home (in either a technical or ethical sense).
