Walt's El Cap Tale in the Bonfire

Recommended Posts

I'm just going to start posting links to Walt's base stories in this thread because he seems determined to post the in the Bonfire instead of here. I know some of you don't bother reading the Bonfire at all, but it would be a shame for you to miss these.

Here's another good one:

In this post there is sensitive jumping logistic information that should not be broadcasted. We don't want to educate the wrong people on how and when we do stuff.

You mean like hiking to the top, walking to the edge and jumping? ;)

I read through Walt's story before he posted it.

In my opinion, it's largely historical, and has no real bearing on how people are doing things today. If people are doing things the way Walt describes, they should know that the rangers are expecting that--because several years ago I asked a ranger how people jumped that site, and he told me that BASE jumpers "always" do it pretty much exactly as Walt described.

Do not name or give locations of BASE sites.
Do not post photographs identifying BASE sites.

With that in mind, I won't crosspost any more of Walt's base stories here for those who avoid the Bonfire, so if there's something else for you to be unhappy about, you'll have to find it yourself.
