KL International Tower Jump 2005 ended yesterday.
Over 650 BASE jumps were completed off KL Tower during this event.

We would like to thank all jumpers that attended and hope that everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
We look forward to an even bigger and better event next year.

Malaysia has provided yet another exceptional BASE jumping event. For me, this year was even better then the last. Each year when I think it cannot possibly get any better, it does.
I achieved many personal milestones at this years event including my 1000th base jump, 100th Alor Setar Tower jump, 100th KL Tower jump and my personal best of 26 BASE jumps in one day (including packing). In just over a week I made a total of 112 base jumps off Menara KL and Menara Alor Setar.
It was great to come to the event and meet some new friends as well as catch up with many old friends, some I had not seen for 10 years.
I would like to thank all jumpers who attended for making it an easy event to run and for staying within sensible levels of base jumping.

Next years event is already being planned and it looks to be much bigger and better then this years. I will post preliminary details about it soon. Watch out for KL Tower International BASE Jump Merdeka Circuit 2006.

Found this picture, from the recent event, during a random search the other day. They seem to be taking this a lot more seriously than when I was there for the 2003/2004 event. Mind you, that was a different event organised by Skyventure, although I think Aziz was also involved. It would be very hard to accidentally fall over the edge of the KL; not only is the edge quite raised but there was also an inner ring (some sort of conduit if I remember correctly - you can just see the camera bag resting on it in the picture) that needed to be climbed over before one got to the edge! Since you couldn't fall over unintentionally, if you did intend to do it on purpose, a harness that one could unclip isn't going to be much of a barrier! :-D

Its nice to see they were being a lot more pro-active about it this time around.

I volunteered to help out with the 2003/4 champs and was keeping an eye on the media, whilst jumping was on at Menara KL. The foreign media (bbc, reuters etc) were great, they all brought their own harnesses and clips and looked after themselves, but the locals were bloody scary.

I'll never forget seeing two of the local media guys, with no restraints/harnesses/rigs, stepping over the cable conduit and pushing and shoving each other to try and get a shot of a jumper exiting (I think it might have been Klaus Renz). One of the military guys grabbed the first and hauled him back over the conduit by his shirt collar and I pulled the other back by his belt.

These idiots then started hurling abuse and seemed to have absolutely no idea that what they were doing was dangerous.

They got escorted back down the tower and the military guys kept them all on a much tighter leash after that.

Edited to add: Aziz wasn't working for SkyVenture, but he was certainly helping out on the day, on behalf of KL Tower. He's a good guy;)

Nowt to do with base jumping really but my Dad worked for the company building KL Tower so I had a couple of vists to the top just after all the structural steel work was completed. The passenger lift used at the time used to take about 10 minutes to get to the top. Great view but I never would have guessed at the time that the Malaysians would be so switched and would go on to allow Base jumping from it and other towers.
