base698 20 #1 February 14, 2004 I heard someone went in because a single 4-6 inch piece of E thread caught around the slider and didn't allow it to come down. This supposedly happened on a reserve. Is this an urban legend or true? Thanks!
mjosparky 4 #2 February 14, 2004 "E" thread has a breaking strength of between 9 to 11 pounds. I would say it is a Urban legend. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals
riggerrob 643 #3 February 15, 2004 That was mentioned in an early-1980s CSPA technical bulletin. Back then round reserves were in fashion. Remember that round canopies have very little spreading force at the skirt right after they have achieved line stretch, so even a light-weight thread could prevent a round canopy from opening. Nobody was injured, so the TB was purely a hypothetical reminder to remove loose threads.
