dmcoco84 5 #1 September 28, 2005 What jump number did you do your first aerial and what did you do? And what type of object? What would be the best aerial to start with? Gainer? Edited to add: And what type of object? I would think an S like NR or Twin falls would be the smartest place to make a first Aeriel. NOTE: Not planning to do one yet, just curious because it is something I do desire to do in the future.

dmcoco84 5 #6 September 28, 2005 Yup thanks I have already checked out Dwain’s info on Aerials in BASE. Very good resource but along with that I was hoping to get other opinions on the subject. Like with the “cat flip” Tree feels that front or back flips are actually less difficult. It’s nice to see what the majority thinks and then I can make a decision on what I will do. Quote Yo, To launch stable onto your back, and then initiate a 180 degree barrel roll is actually much more difficult than a basic front or back flip. If you are comfortable with flips from the Perrine, than this should not be too difficult. If you do stall, simply pull both knees to your chest and you will flip right over. Keep in mind that at that altitude, you will be pitching out of just about any aerial you do. If you don't feel comfortable doing flips there, I would caution against starting with that move
TomAiello 26 #7 September 28, 2005 Quote...what type of object? I highly recommend doing your first 100 or so aerials from a trampoline or diving board.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
dmcoco84 5 #8 September 28, 2005 Yea I've beed working on finding dive training but I haven't had any luck. The highest diving boards I have found are 1 meter spring at the local rec centers. Been trying to get in touch with some of the local colleges but no one has emailed me back. A 3 meter at the least would be nice. D
TomAiello 26 #9 September 28, 2005 1 meter is pretty good for practice. Way better than nothing, certainly. Have you looked for trampoline training?-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
dmcoco84 5 #10 September 28, 2005 Yea but nada for that though. Might have one at a gymnastics place but 2 of the places I visited and talk to the managers they said they didn’t have insurance for anyone over 18. There is one place left I can try and if not I’ll probably just do the 1 meter spring.

grundleson 0 #12 September 28, 2005 i had pretty low jump numbers to start throwin aerials. But then again i was a gymnast for 15 years so i knew my place in the air. Like the other guys have been saying, practice getting upside down off a trampoline. there is a lot of places with gymnastics programs (you just have to look a little ) that do a an "open gym " when it costs like 5 bucks and there is a coach there walking around while everyone just kinda plays. most gyms have a trampoline built next to a "pit" a big foam bed that you can crash in. practice into this and figure out what its like to have your feet go over your head. but then again. thats just my 2 cents. Dont die!
RayLosli 11 #13 September 28, 2005 Did my very first Aerial on jump # 520 did a double-front from 870 -ft. Antenna. / went pretty fair. - I exited first before D.J. and Dwain did. Latter that night Dwain asked me. ..."what's-up with that ?" I said..."with fucking what." Dwain said ..."You.never do Aerial's and Taking it Down. That was quite aberrant behavior for you." I said..."Fuck dude, Nick H. lived that long and he never trained or skydived. So I figured, Fuck dude I'll live forever." Dwain just Smirked and went on with his business. . dmcoco84 5 #14 September 28, 2005 Cool thanks for the info. Yea I have been to all the gyms in my area and they are all for High school and younger. This last one that I haven’t been to yet has an adult program so more than likely I will be able to get some work in there. www.excalibur-gymnastics.com/ I actually did gymnastics too! I did it for about 3 years (summers) at a summer camp I went to. Some cute girls wanted a guy I met the year before asked me to take the class with them and I said ok and really enjoyed it. Nice eye candy too! Glide kips are a bitch! HA
Bennii 0 #15 September 28, 2005 I would go for hard deck (0-5 meters) unless you have spring board on your object. Training this in gymnastium into sponge pit is more forgiven than water. Video could help you to analyse your jump. trampoline improves body awareness alot a which could safe your live at some point. I think that big cave in central America is one of the best places to start but i think its still closed i am not expert so question averting i say take care Benni
dmcoco84 5 #16 September 28, 2005 Yea good point but I can barely find higher spring boards let alone a platform high dive. D

brits17 0 #22 September 28, 2005 I'm kinda in the same boat as grundleson. I think it was jump #34 or something stupid like that. But I agree that the trampoline and pit action is the best way to practice. The aerial aspect is mostly a matter of knowing your orientation in dead air. The gymnastic element is half the battle. The problem with aerials so early on is the whole BASE jumping factor. Getting caught up in a maneuver or something is like operation overload. The comfort of dead air, maintaining belly to earth, pull altitude and delay time are the obvious most important things. Aerials cannot interfere with any of these elements. If they are, then its too soon, or its not the right place/time. There's some objects where it's ok to throw a flip (like Perrine, or a nice low antenna ). Some, I am not ready for. Ok thats about all. _______________________ aerialkinetics.com
blair700 0 #23 September 29, 2005 Less than 20 jumps, off an Antenna, triple front flip.... From around 1800' though with a nice little tailwind You can view it on this VIDEO right towards the end. I've only done aerials on tall slider up jumps, that's because I've never been properly trained for the sub-terminal aerials...which is highly reccommended. 704 and I have talked about possibly going through some training, maybe this fall? Of course, a wise man once told me..... "C'mon man, aerials are SSSOOOO 90's.." Later Blair

Treejumps 0 #25 September 29, 2005 I have a friend who did a layout on his first base jump at BD 2003. He had some diving experience in school, was a decent freeflyer, and didn't have any problem with it. Anything less than that and you're soft.
