sdgregory 0 #1 February 13, 2004 I currently fly a Hornet 230. I am thinking about getting a second rig. What canopy would be good or comparable? Antything from the 200 to 230 sq ft range only. Preferrably 210-220. Please tell me why you recommend this canopy as well. Thank you.
b1jercat 0 #2 February 13, 2004 Well the saber2 comes to mind, I have one my buddy has a hornet and side by side the hornet has a little better glide than the saber2. Also probably one of the most overlooked canopys out there the silhouette. which in my opion has an nice flat glide and a nice turn rate. These are canopys I have jumped at about 1.3 w/l, note on no wind hot day I have to take a few steps when landing. All things considered they all have an awesome flare. blue skies jerry
CanuckInUSA 0 #3 February 13, 2004 Sabre2s are very good canopies (I used to own a 190 and a 170). It'll give you lots of performance, yet still remain somewhat docile (if that's the right way to describe it). It usually opens nice, has a good glide ratio and if done right can still be swooped like a mother %#@&^*. There are other good canopies out there, but the Sabre2 is an excellent canopy for the intermediate skydiver and advanced skydivers like SkymonkeyOne also fly it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
billvon 3,092 #4 February 13, 2004 Pilot 210. It's a bit cheaper than the Sabre 2, flies about the same. Openings are a little better. Line attach points are color coded which makes learning to pack easier.
GravityGirl 0 #5 February 13, 2004 For that size, I would pick a Pilot 210 or a Silhouette 210. What is your exit weight? It is a big factor in regards to opening and other flight charactoristics. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

sdgregory 0 #9 February 14, 2004 Well until a few weeks ago I exited at 240 on my 230. Now I exit at 230 on my 230 and hope to lighter still in a few more weeks. (lost 10lbs the past 6 weeks- halway to my goal.) I am keeping it conservative and will not jump less than a 200 but prefer a 210. Anyone got a used Pilot 210 I might buy? Airborne03 0 #10 February 15, 2004 QuoteAnyone got a used Pilot 210 I might buy? i would be really surprised, they are still really new on the market. i have been checking the classifieds just to see what my rig and canopies would be worth on the resale value and there isnt anything there "Airborne all the way" EL Cantador Rodriguez

karlm 0 #12 February 16, 2004 Seems everybody has a similar opinion. I jumped a Hornet for 107 jumps, before going over to a Heatwave. And must say the Hornet is a excellent canopy, if $ is no issue, then look at a new Sabre 2 or the new Aerodyne Pilot. Guys at my Dz who have jumped both the Sabre and Pilot compare the two quite well. The Pilot has a flatter glide angle. Soft openings, good all round response and will serve you well. I would chat to your CI before looking into a elliptical canopy e.g. Heatwave, Stiletto, Vision etc. If you are happy with a square get a demo Pilot and put it through it's paces, you'll love it. Better never to have met you in my dream than to wake and reach for hands that are not there.
piisfish 140 #13 February 16, 2004 maybe a silhouette. many people with low number of jumps or not jumping very often or conservative at our DZ have that. 33 jumps, 2 rigs, lucky you.scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM

cousindave 0 #15 February 16, 2004 I would strongly recommend the Lotus by Big AirSportz. The airfoil is very similar to the sabre2 but it has airlocks which will maintain the internal pressure in the wing. i have jumped all the comparable canopies and the lotus is better in terbulence and is less likely to collapse. see the BigAirSortz website for furhter info on airlocks.
