jeepnjump 0 #1 February 13, 2004 I am getting back into the sport this year after two and a half years out. I still have my rig, will be getting the proper training and all. I have never had a cypres before, but will be getting one this time around. My question is should I get a cypres, or a cypres 2? I realize the original is cheaper up front, but with the battery changes, there isn't much difference at all in price (the cypres 2 may even come out cheaper). thoughts? mjosparky 4 #2 February 13, 2004 My suggestion would be to go with the Cypres 2. But I would also suggest to speak with the rigger who will be updating your equipment. Welcome back and enjoy. scottjaco 0 #3 February 13, 2004 The cypres2 is less hassle. you change the battery at the same time you do your 4 year check. Thats it! No 2 year battery replacement, no counting jumps, measuring voltage ect.
Harksaw 0 #4 February 13, 2004 Isn't the original Cypres not manufactured any more?__________________________________________________ I started skydiving for the money and the chicks. Oh, wait.
diablopilot 2 #5 February 13, 2004 Somewhere around here I worked out the math, can't be bothered to go find it as we close up shop in like 2 minutes, but the cost of ownership of a Cyress 2 over 12 years was less than a Cypres 1. That said the Cypres 1 is no longer produced, so you might get a good deal on a used one if you can find it. Do a search on this site and you'll find more info than you'll want....---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. GravityGirl 0 #6 February 13, 2004 I had a heck of a time getting ahold of any original Cypres. Are there even any more out there that are unused? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
scottjaco 0 #7 February 14, 2004 I doubt there are any brand new original cypres. I checked into it because I wanted to spend $800 bucks instead of $1,200. I couldn't find any on the web....just used ones. I ended up just buying a new Cypres2
webracer 0 #8 February 14, 2004 Go with the latest. Used cypres 1 units are quite expensive (the cypres 2 bumped up the used prices). I just put one up on the classifieds and it went in hours (should have priced it higher...ugh!) I'm putting a cypres 2 in my new rig. Bottom line is if you have a cypres, keep it, but if you're buying, get the new one.Troy I am now free to exercise my downward mobility.
pilotdave 0 #9 February 16, 2004 Very true. According to the cypres value estimator at the SSK site, my 2 year old cypres with fresh batteries is worth more than I paid for it. I'll sell mine for less than it's worth though (with my rig), since I'd rather have a new one. Dave
cousindave 0 #10 February 16, 2004 If you can find a used cypres for a good price buy it, otherwise buy a cypres2. new batteries are a hastle and the cypres 2 is water resistant. David Ames Used Gear Specialists http://www.cousindave.com
