NickDG 23 #3 June 17, 2005 Try Eric at gallan@tfb.com. I'd help you out, but I'm a bit under the weather . . . I'm having radiation treatments this week. It's like getting dosed by an AM tower with no jump at the end . . . NickD BASE
JaapSuter 0 #4 June 17, 2005 QuoteI'm having radiation treatments this week. It's like getting dosed by an AM tower with no jump at the end . . . I already sharted my pants when I felt the tiny little shock touching the live Gravity Towers in your neighbourhood. Fortunately I got rewarded with a jump. I can not imagine how tough a radiation treatment must be. Wishing you the best Nick!

JaapSuter 0 #6 June 17, 2005 Hey Eric, Correct me if I'm wrong, but you haven't done an FJC with anybody, have you? Have you considered taking one? One often overlooked advantage of doing an FJC is that it will give you contacts in the sport. This increases the network of people you know, as well as provide references for other people. When I came back from my FJCs, I tried getting in touch with people too. When I did, I could tell them to ask Tom or Jimmy if they wanted to know what kind of jumper I was. Of course, for me this worked the complete opposite way because Tom and Jimmy are way too honest about me. This scared away all other active jumpers in my neighbourhood, leaving me all alone in crane paradise. But that's just me. Do an FJC, get to know your teacher as well as the fellow students you take the course with. Within no time, you'll meet the people they know, and the people they know, and the people they know, ad infinitum.
cornishe 0 #7 June 17, 2005 Hey Eric/Grundelson. Its Abbie. We met on your first jump and then again memorial weekend. I'm sure you remember me though, since most people would pay good money to forget. :-) Eric Gallan is a buddy of mine and we jump together. I'm split between LA and Riverside, but make it down to San Diego every so often. PM me your phone number, and you can email Eric or PM him. His handle here is edge01. Don't be offended if you don't get taken somewhere right away. Showing someone an object is vouching for a guy. If you burn an object that I show you, then I have to kill you. It's in the BASE rules. Send my regards to Paul as well. -Abbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
JaapSuter 0 #8 June 17, 2005 QuoteI'm sure you remember me though, since most people would pay good money to forget. :-) Rectal surgery isn't that expensive anymore these days. Eric; definitely drop Abbie a note. He's great to jump with and very conservative. He's also not afraid to go against the grain if something else works better or safer. He managed to convert me into a top-down closer!
lifewithoutanet 0 #9 June 17, 2005 Eric, I was there with Abbie, too. You met us while we were in town with Jaap and Russel, as well as a couple other guys from CO. Hung out with us while we (and your buddy Paul) were packing, and came out with a few of us to the exit. I'm gonna echo Jaap and Abbie's sentiments. Not knowing if and who you took an FJC with, if you haven't, it'd be a good idea and would help you get setup with more experienced jumpers like Jaap said. Hell, I'm no mentor and Abbie only takes scantily-clad underage students with no previous skydiving experience. And again, since jumpers before us showed us the objects, if you were to burn one, once we killed you, they might still come after us. I think you said something about jumping at Perris during the week. If you're still doing that, pop over to BR (edit: Apex Perris) when they're open, if you haven't already. That would definitely be a good start. -C.
lifewithoutanet 0 #10 June 17, 2005 QuoteHe's great to jump with and very conservative. I gotta echo this as well. For all the shit I like to give him here, over Email, in person...he's a good guy to jump with. First jump I ever made with him, I didn't know what to expect. I'd met him once in Moab and, well, anyone who was there or has met him knows what I'm talking about. I didn't know what to expect at the exit or on the way to it. But I was impressed with everything he did, except maybe his PCA skillz. I could say a lot of complimentary things about a lot of other jumpers here, too...and you all know who you are, but I'm going to leave this post as it is and just work to damage Abbie "Stiffler"'s reputation alone. -C.
