karenmeal 0 #1 February 3, 2004 Just posting to see if this has happened to anyone else, and if their cypress survived. Recently, my cypress quit working. When I try to turn it on.. the lights flash appropriately, but instead of beginning a countdown it just flashes 0 and then shuts off after about a second. We confirmed that I had put the batteries in correctly. They are due to be changed in about six months... my cypress is about three years old... Never had any trauma.. hasn't gotten wet.. not been sitting in the sun.... Checked my manual and its not an error code or anything. Has this happened to anyone else? AggieDave 6 #2 February 3, 2004 Sounds like you need to send an e-mail to SSK/Airtek. They may ask you to ship your Cypres to them for testing. At the very least it might be a bad set of batteries.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."

diablopilot 2 #4 February 3, 2004 Yep happened to me. Sent it back to SSK, and they fixed it at no charge to me. What's up anyway Karen? How are you guys doing up north?---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

karenmeal 0 #6 February 3, 2004 No charge??? holy cow! I should probably quit procrastinating. Thanks JP! Just curious, how long did it take to get it back? Its very cloudy and rainy up here. My plan to go to school w/out skydiving distracting me is working. Why don't you come visit us on friday for my 21st? I don't have anyone but Jeff to get sloshed with! Oh please? diablopilot 2 #7 February 3, 2004 I think is was between 3 and 4 weeks, I could be wrong though.... I'd love to be there for your Birthday! Lets see, I get off work at 5 and it's only like 1500 miles so I should be there about...... Hmmmm. Seriously, Happy Birthday!---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

linestretch 0 #9 February 3, 2004 I think you "should" be able to get it back quicker. I'm in Guam, and twice have sent a tandem cypres in for work, and it came back in roughly 2 weeks. I was pretty surprised.
diablopilot 2 #10 February 4, 2004 When I worked for another company and we sent in customer's units for service they usualy tok 3-4 weeks shipped from the West Coast. We could cut this time don to 2 weeks by shipping 2nd day air. SSK will ship it back the same way it was sent in most cases. How did you ship from Guam?---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
gerrcoin 0 #11 February 4, 2004 source: http://www.cypres-usa.com/faltblau.htmQuote:Every time Cypres is switched on, it will calibrate to ground elevation by measuring the air pressure several times in a short period of time and taking the average value as the value for ground level. This is happening during the integrated self-test which also checks the battery, the entire internal electronics, etc. If this check is successful, Cypres will go into function - otherwise it will shut itself down.Endquote:source: English Cypress user manualQuote:Battery failure or low battery voltage will be detected by CYPRES. At the end of the self-test cycle, CYPRES will stop with an error display of 8999 or 8998 and will not assume operating mode. This indicates that the energy supply of the battery is no longer within operating limits.Replace the battery once the self test has stopped at 8998 or 8999 (voltage too low),after two years or after 500 jumps, whichever comes first.EndquoteDefinite internal problem, not just the battery. Low battery or battery failure will indicate on the LCD and show an error on the start up selftest. The two states are distinct - a battery can have a good voltage reading but low charge (like rechargable Ni-Cd's that run equipment fine and die very quickly at the end) or plenty of charge but degraded voltage (can be caused by corrosion or oxidation on the contacts).Either way it seems that you'll get it sorted fairly easily with SSK for no charge (no pun intended). Ya can't say fairer than that.
