Camera decisions...

Recommended Posts

Calling all you camera flying dudes out there! I reckon it is time to get something small and expensive (!) :Sstrapped to the side of my helmet. At the moment I am looking at the PC105 because that is what my mate has and he likes it, but I thought I would get a second opinion... and hopefully a third, fourth, fifth etc!B|

Also, whether you guys reckon it is worth shelling out for a moulded FFX type helmet or just as good to get a bracket bolted on? Anything wisdom you have to share really!!:)

I spoke to 2k Composites last weekend at the AGM. They have stopped the FFX because it was less popular than the FF2 and they are both as snag proof as each other. (I ordered the FF2 - impeniterable!). I wanted the FF2 as I wanted to minimise the concern of a line snag as much as possibel.

There are alternatives such as the RAWA a new German helmet called the Leon and an Ausie one you'll find on the clasifieds here. When I factored in the price difference and build quality differences (after a couple of months of research and reading) I went with the FF2 but others may come to different conclusions and want the cheaper models.

On camera's the 105 is what a lot of people are buying and perfect for flying. The 101 is no longer made and is identical to the 105 in all but the flash (when are you gonna use that jumping) so this works out a lot cheaper if you can find a nice one.

You also may find more responses in the camera forum.;)

I've got a PC101 and I love it. They can be had for around $500 US on eBay. If you're looking for a less expensive option than the PC105, that could be one.

Yeah - no IP7's - any luck with my Jessops idea yet?

Did headsheald have the stand right in front of you as you walk in through the door at the AGM ?

If so: I noticed that some of them were wonkey - ie the top mount was not horrizontal on the top of the helmet, although it did form a rightangle with the side mount - which ment that was not vertical either... maybe they were just a couple of screwey demo models but it makes me nervous of their QC.

I think it's just the way the helmet sits on your head...Me mate Andy's got one, and although it looks wonky to look at, the angle is perfect when on your head...and at £125 for the full shebang, I like the price as well...B|

PS No Jessops yet...need to pay off the Crossfire first...mmm...tangerine and blackberry...;)

PC120 has been replaced as well...the PC330 is the newest replacement for both it and the PC115. Resolution for captures seems like the biggest improvement in the 330.B|

I got a FF2 and a PC120 that is great.

There are questions about this new camera buying in the camera forum maybe that can help a little;)

Thanks for the advice - looks like everyone is talking Sony anyway!

You will be hard pushed to find anyone who seriously recomends you to buy anything other than sony as a DV camera.

Others simply do not stand up to the abuse, are not standard so you cannot buy things to fit them to, do not have lanc ports so you cannot use a Cameye. (all of those are generaliseations - Im sure someone could find an exception to each, but the advice is sound none the less)

Nope I ment this one I noticed the other day in the Classifieds: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=6638&d=1

A PM to the yeilded this website:www.fibrezone.50megs.com (later they will change this site to www.fibrezonecomposites.com which isn't up and running yet).

The German one I mention is this:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=13363&item=2783304491 If I finally find the time, I'll post a review of this one as I had him send me over a demo helmet.

The 4 helmets I mentioned are (AFAIK) the only 4 on the general market that offer an "all in one" design where the camera mount and box is actually built into the body of the helmet. The Cookie Composits helmets all feature a seperate helmet and D-box construction.

Amazingly... I emailed the order to my dealer at the end of November. I did expect it to be at least April. Having said that, it's not yet March, and I still don;t yet have it [:/]

Please do bring it down... I'h love to see it :|
