jumper03 0 #1 January 28, 2004 Got a conundrum I'd like to get some input on - Sister got me a $50 para-gear gift certificate for xmas. I'm planning on going to USAPR sometime late this year or early next year and have decided to get the books I need. So $50 will get one of the Poynter Parachute manuals- which one first? The 2nd vol. covers Ram air more thoroughly I gather and I feel would be most relevant. However, I think the 1st vol. covers tools and such. So, if you didn't have either and had $50 to burn - which would you get right now? Keep in mind in a few months, this will be a moot point - I just don't know which would be the best to start with. Thanks for any input. JumpScars remind us that the past is real
diablopilot 2 #2 January 28, 2004 I'd get # 2 first, but back it up w/ # 1 when you get the chance.---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
masterrig 1 #3 February 6, 2004 I agree, start with Vol. II. I graduated from USAPR and that was the Vol. we used. Vol.I, covers the old, old parachutes, harness/containers and a little on 'squares' and covers a lot of history. Don't ignore getting Vol.I, though... rounds are still out there. Good luck to you. I know, you'll enjoy the course at USAPR. Chuck
TimDave 0 #4 February 6, 2004 Vol. I has more on sewing and those types of things. Depends on what you want to learn first. Agreed Vol. II has more on squares but don't overlook that "old" stuff.
masterrig 1 #5 February 6, 2004 True story. In essence, in this business, one can't ignore any of it. It's all a 'learning curve'. Chuck
payback462 0 #6 February 6, 2004 get both!! and get the PRC while your at it! id prolly start with #2 though, but like i said GET THE PRC, it breaks both books down into smaller more manageable sections than just reading them straight through. the usapr course is also based around the PRC and its quizzes so it will ease some of the load if you learn as much as you can now. jumper03 0 #10 February 11, 2004 Thanks for the input guys. Vol II is on the way. And I've been printing out all the owners manuals for the most popular containers. So I got Javelin, Wings and Vector 3 so far. Plenty more to go.... I feel like a blind dog in a meat market sucking up all this info Scars remind us that the past is real
