cornishe 0 #5 November 9, 2004 Yes. Now I see why there were people in Idaho fliking the bridge with ski and boards. :-P Bladerunning back to the truck would be convinient. -aAbbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
dixieskydiver 0 #6 November 10, 2004 I'm going to down to Chile for a semester in Janurary as well. I don't think I'll be doing and BASE. You might also want to check the Foro de Salto Libre if you haven't already, some of those guys might have an idea. cornishe 0 #7 November 10, 2004 Yeah thanks. If they were into BASE they'd be monitoring this forum. Most everyone (with internet access) in Chile speaks enough english to be on this board. If you want to get down to Skydive Pucon send me a PM when you are arriving and I will give you my contact number down there. I will hopefully have one of my aunt's cars again the entire stay. If I remeber correctly its about 7 our 8 hours south. Are you studying abroad at la Catolica? -aAbbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE

That would be awesome, I hope to do some jumping down there and I will be bringing my rig. Dixie HISPA #56 Facil Rodriguez "Scientific research has shown that 60% of the time, it works every time." basehoundsam 0 #9 November 10, 2004 I'll dig up Chile-Willy's #. He can fill you in on all there is to know about skydiving down there. I've spent a few winters in Santiago snow-boarding and skydiving. Very small population of jumpers down there. No BASE jumpers that I have met..... quite a few in Argentina. Talk to Niko at Vertigo... uh hum Apex . He lives in Buenos Aires, and has a few friends that I have jumped with. I believe they have a 300 ft bridge with an Australian type do or die landing area. I have looked at multiple exit points in the winter up and around Portillo near the Argentinean border. Mostly accessible by helicopter. There is actually a helicopter that lives up at the Ski area. I have used it a handful of times. The problem with cliffs in South America is there lack of access and remoteness in location. Winter and weather conditions are highly unstable, and mountaineering/alpine skills are quite necessary. Good luck and I'll pm you Willys contact info..... he's the man..... Even so, anything with a technically challenging ascent will be out of my reach. QuoteGood luck and I'll pm you Willys contact info..... he's the man..... No, YOU'RE the man. bps 0 #11 November 11, 2004 Hi Abbie -- BASE or no BASE, you'll have a great time in Chile. It's a beautiful country... I spent 10 days in Santiago last April performing in an airshow. Our days were fairly busy, so I didn't have much time to get out and explore. Generally speaking, urban jumping in Santiago is difficult because there are tons of wires everywhere and landing areas are scarce to non-existant. Exit-point access was easily attained, but it didn't matter because the best landing areas were super-dicey at best. I saw several jumps sprinkled throughout the country-side, but I cannot give you any real beta because I did not have time to really check them out. I spent a good amount of time with the "Boinas Azuelas" military jump team (super great guys) and also the civilian skydiving club that they are involved with. They did not know of any local BASE jumpers in the Santiago area. There are a few BASE jumpers in Argentina, but unfortunately I do not have any contact info for them. I'd say your best bet is to travel with your rig and a keen sense of adventure. Give me a holler next time you're in Idaho -- I had a blast hanging out with you last time you were here. Have fun! Ronald 0 #13 November 11, 2004 I know Eric Fradet jumped near Esquel, Argentina. It is opposite of Chiloé Island, middle south of Chile. His email is ericfradet@yahoo.com There are cliffs of about 100-130 meters in Talampaya National Park, La Rioja Province, Argentina. No clue about accesability though. Finally, I remember a front page picture in Skydiving Magazine some years ago with a base skysurf of a cliff somewhere in shouthern Chile. You should contact Skydiving therefore. From what I gather of rafting descriptions, the Bío Bío river vallley (near Concepción) has cliffs similar to Yosemity Valley And yes, Chile is beautifull. Alas, the best parts are far away from Santiago. Eg. Torres del Paine National Park (oops, big wall climbing there...) and the Atacama desert. Spent 5 months there Have a good trip, Ronald Overdijk www.liveskyproductions.nl
cornishe 0 #14 November 11, 2004 What's up Bryan!!! This thread is now starting to jog my memory. Last time I was there (jan2000) I remeber a beautiful building being constructed on the beach in Vina Del Mar. It looked like it was going to be luxury condos or a hotel. I'll have to check it out again, as that seems like a option with possibly a great landing area. I'll probably be up in twin once more before I leave the country. I'll give you a holler when i nail down the weekend. cheers, abbieAbbie Mashaal Skydive Idaho Snake River Skydiving TandemBASE
