iiro 0 #1 August 25, 2004 Yo! I have almost finished producing a base-jumping DVD called "The Ground Is The Limit". It will feature Jeb Corliss and myself, and its dedicated for Dwain's memory. I'd like include footage from all the big-ways i have been part of. I know the same footage has been already been seen and used on other videos, but i just want to double check before making the final on-line. So heads up, jumpers from: 24-way Kjerag 19-way Perrine 26-way Ostankino Does anyone (either a jumper on those loads or cameramen) have anything against me using that footage??? Each record jump will last for about 30 seconds on the final DVD. Please, pass the word to jumpers, who have been involved on the loads. Thanks! Party on! See you at BD! CanuckInUSA 0 #2 August 25, 2004 QuoteI'd like include footage from all the big-ways i have been part of. This brings up the question of who owns the rights for some jumping footage. Are the rights owned by the person who owns the camera and videos the footage, or are the rights owned by the person(s) seen jumping. Purgery is one thing (and technically I am guilty of this on my one non-profit, non-BASE jumping video I've made to date as I actually spent money out of my own pocket to give people copies of my video, it's not like I tried to profit off of someone else's work). But if you were part of these jumps or the footage came from your camera, I would think that you have just as many rights to use that footage than the people who used it before you. In fact I'm more concerned about the entertainment value of a video and the more bad ass footage that we see, the better. On the question of who owns the rights, not long ago I videoed a jump of someone using my camera. The person didn't like the resulting footage and was obviously worried that I would show it to others. So while I wasn't watching, they erased the footage from my camera. Now I'm not all that worried about what happened in this case. I do consider this person a friend and there is no point risking losing a friend because of it. But who owns the rights to the footage. The person who owns the camera/tape and who videoed the jump. Or the person(s) seen on the video making the jump? By the way, any video with Jeb on it I'm sure will be worth seeing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
Faber 0 #3 August 25, 2004 personaly i make sure that each person on my edited videos agreed to be on that vid, public. I once had a GC video me at his own cam,i didnt care aslong as it dont go furter whith out asking me. If any BASEjumper can use me jumping on their vid they are always welcome to do so(unless it means it could lead to a bust/burn the object). just my oppinion.. Stay safe Stefan Faber
CanuckInUSA 0 #4 August 25, 2004 You bring up a good point about possible site burning (something not applicable in the skydiving video I created last year). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
smiles 0 #5 August 25, 2004 interesting for sure.... I myself have been so awe inspired with BASE DEMO clip I downloaded from somewhere titled- Jeb 2003- "A year in the life." Do I have possession of footage without permission of author?? Should I feel guilty?? I am in awe watching it, cannot believe for the life of me how I obtained it ??? How could such incredible work of talent be available to all?? I would like to say thank you, thank you, thank you..... Metallica- Nothing Else Matters is absolutely the best choice of music for this footage....a work of the finest art. I would appreciate info on how to purchase it- or any DVD footage of this nature which I feel promotes BASE at the highest level possible. SMiles
Lee846 0 #6 August 25, 2004 Quote Metallica- Nothing Else Matters is absolutely the best choice of music for this footage....a work of the finest art. I think it was "Apocalyptica" versionI'm quite in agreement with your opinion! It's the best video I've ever seen. And it was the best soundtrack to show the spirit of that place. I'm delighted with Jeb's work! Between two evils always pick theone never tried
TomAiello 26 #7 August 25, 2004 Did you get any of Arne's footage for it?-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
iiro 0 #8 August 25, 2004 I'm going to name some sites here, but they all are very high profile and naming them will not burn them, nor increase their security. All these sites will be featured on the movie as well. Yes, Arne is going to be on the movie as well. There will be a short introduction to him, which shows his most famous jumps, like The Leaning Tower Of Pisa and The Colosseum in Rome. He was also traveling with us for the Golden Gate and Stratosphere and he is also part of those stories. I have spent the last year making this movie. I have hired very talented artists to present our sport in the coolest possible way. Everything from cover art to music has been created only for this project. Imagine it like 1st base, but this one is also aimed for "normal" people - with some talking by Jeb and me. I have all the creative control and it will present Jeb, me and our sport from our own perspective. The footage i have collected from these "big-ways" are filmed by several different people and when we fire-wired them, we gave each other a verbal permit to use the footage any way we want. I just want double check that before making the final cut. Now, its still relatively easy to chop parts away. Thank you for your e-mail and written permit to use your footage from 19-way, Jake! When we did 24-way, we gave Tom Sanders rights for the footage. I have actually payed him a couple thousand dollars, when i used it in my television series a while back. Since then, the footage has been used on other movies and i feel i have already payed for that footage. BUT I would like to know, if someone objects it. I'm going to show this movie to base-community at Bridge Day, if you are interested. It will be officially released later this fall.
