turtlespeed 226 #1 August 2, 2004 I think I might need to do a BASE jump. The most vivid dreams I have ever had are haunting me in the middle of the night. Last night for instance - I was dreaming that I was ground crew for a tower that I have seen from the air. It was very intense and very "real" I have been talking to different people about an FJC. Not financially possible to go too far from home. (Thinking of Moab) And schedule won't permit Bridge Day. Theses dreams though, damn. We were sitting discussing the jump, after the fact, and I flashed back to the experiance. Lots of trees around, but a nice open field to land in. As I was watching the canopy descend, our jump plane flew over.(shrug) Then we just talked about it som more. And it seemed like HOURS we were in a building at the base of the tower discussing it. That is all I remember. BUT, I was able to say to myself - damn that was cool, and rewound "the tape" to play it again. So I had almost the exact same dream by just wanting to. *sigh* One day - I want to BASE - if only to see if it is something that I would like to continue. I have read Tom's article. I don't fit alot of the discriptions. I still think it is something I would like to do, as I said, at least once.I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun

The span in Idaho is much better for FJCs and every day is Bridge Day in Potato Land. QuoteI want to BASE - if only to see if it is something that I would like to continue. CanuckInUSA 0 #8 August 2, 2004 Hey Clint If you can get your hands on some BASE gear and can find someone experienced to take you out to an A in your neck of the woods. Then go for it. But as others have already said, if you really want it, get out there and seize the moment and don't let money get in the way of your dreams (but being somewhat responsible with your money is still a good idea). Plus I can't tell you what a great place the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls Idaho is to make your first "x" number of BASE jumps at. Where else can you jump legally without the fear of getting busted, jump during the day (or at night if you want night jump training). Plus this span is the perfect height (not too high, not too low), it has a decent landing area and the option for water landings if you have some sort of gear malfunction always exist. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yeah dude, you definitely don't want to do cliffs on your first jumps. Twin Falls & Moab are equidistant from Salt Lake City. We usually fly into SLC and then drive up to TF or Moab. I believe some FJCs will pick you up in SLC and then go on up to TF. Flights to SLC from Houston are about $250. You're more than welcome to come watch us jump sometime. supafly 0 #10 August 2, 2004 It was funny running across your post this morning. I actually had a similar dream myself a couple nights ago. "It was very intense and very real" Yup, same here. Woke up mid-way through the night when I just finished climbing the A in my dream. I was so excited I couldn't fall back asleep. There is a grouping of A's here in town that I pass on the way to work everyday. My guess is that no one is jumping them (they're in a fairly open area near a major road). I know I'll never jump there, but just seeing them makes me think about making my first jump. I'm in the process of rounding up gear (container on the way, still looking for a good deal on a canopy). Registered for Bridge Day and plan to make my first jump there. If all goes well, hopefully I can find some cool jumpers in the area. I know a couple people that are into BASE at my DZ, but really haven't approached them yet. Anyways, good luck. I'm sure you'll find a way to make it happen if you want to. --KeithArizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com

TomAiello 26 #12 August 2, 2004 Check out Number 51. Quote#51 Christopher Kennedy, December 2,1997 Age: 35 Antenna Jump Tucson, Arizona USA Impact Christopher is dead when his feet leave the tower is what other jumpers said after this fatality. Using a skydiving rig not modified for BASE, and without any prior BASE training or experience, he climbed 364-feet up a 450-foot tower and jumped only to find his bungee controlled collapsible pilot chute didn't work well at slow airspeeds. A passer-by found Kennedy's body near the tower the next morning. He had pulled his reserve handle at some point prior to impact. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this fatality.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
supafly 0 #13 August 2, 2004 Quoteits kind of fun looking at them and think"hey i jumped that one" That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't know how I'll react to BASE yet, but I know when I see a low flying plane over town the first thing that comes to mind is...hop n' pop! Nice way to get my mind off work for a couple minutes. These A's are definitely high enough so who knows. Maybe someday. --KeithArizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
supafly 0 #14 August 2, 2004 It really sucks to hear those kind of stories, but its a good reminder of what can happen. That could've been one of the A's I'm thinking of...not sure. IF I end up liking my Bridge Day experience (which I'll be using BASE specific gear to do), you can be sure I'm getting my ass some additional training and hopefully hooking up with some locals before making anymore jumps. --KeithArizona Drive 4-Way VFS - www.DriveVFS.com
TomAiello 26 #15 August 2, 2004 Actually, I'm thinking that fatality ocurred on one of the towers you're looking at. I've seen the one that happened at, and it's in a group, right next to a major roadway.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
