ManBird 0 #1 June 22, 2004 The great thing about a canopy that inflates with very low air pressure is that it gives me the ability to ground launch in the park across the street. There's a very steep grassy hill in the park and it got really breezy after work, so I took my recently acquired Fox kiting. The "jump" is about 30' top to bottom, and I just stayed between 3' and 10' for a few seconds. It was just enough to float off, fly about 50' horizontally and flare (a cheap and safe way to find the stall point). This would be a lot easier with V-Tec/valves, as the bottom skin is much easier to present to the wind across the ground. It was a little tough to "lift" the nose. I found that holding the center cell and presenting the nose was enough to inflate it, and once a strong breeze hit, it would lift the canopy. Then I'd go for a run off hill. Now I can see why some people don't really consider unders/overs/TARDs/etc to be real BASE jumps. Regardless, it was a lot of fun, and it has me thinking about paragliding now. I need way more money than I actually have."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
