freeflynick 0 #5 April 27, 2004 HAHA - good one! you're joking, right? This is what bugs me about the world of BASE jumping - y'all are so feckin' nutz, I don't know what to take seriously or when you're taking the piss!!. Poor innocent me is confused again. TomAiello 26 #6 April 27, 2004 QuoteHAHA - good one! you're joking, right? No, he's not. That really is a rocket deployed parachute system. I believe base283 was involved in the development. Maybe he'll post here and answer questions about it (or you could PM him if you really had a burning curiosity).-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
ManBird 0 #7 April 27, 2004 Paraglider pilots generally carry ballistic deployed reserves, as they are usually very, very low when the shit hits the fan."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click

base283 0 #11 April 28, 2004 Yo Tom, is correct, I was the genie who helped Peter/rocket man achieve his wish. I built the harness/container/rocket/motorcycle harness system for him and after around a 100 jumps on it he got it dialed in. Its strange to here someone talk about a 20m FF that he almost took too long of a delay. WARNING!! On the Paraglider sytem it is made for a basically horizontal trajectory under many square ft of Malfunctioning (resp) paragliding main and is totally useless for this application. It is mainly a gimmick and not many glider pilots use it as the system (for PG pilots) is heavy/expensive and does not provide better performance than throwing out the pod in the correct direction vs incorrect in the common case of the spinning Mal. If you have any Technical questions i would be happy to pass them on to Peter as we have an NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) and anyway he was the ballistics expert and I only provided him with the platform and guidance to do it as safe as possible. His lowest jump was an astounding 4m dropoff to a glideable slope. de guy got biguns! take care, space edited to add a P.S. P.S., The snowboard jump was with the same system. Not that anyone should use this system without proper training and purpose. I wouldn't. Anywho, these jumps are rad. Good stuff."¯"`-._.-¯) ManBird (¯-._.-´"¯" Click
freeflynick 0 #13 April 28, 2004 Once again, I bow to your desire to do stuff that will hurt/kill you, and then your ingenuity in finding ways of doing it without hurting/killing yourselves!! Keep pushing the limits of Darwinian theory!!

I only took issue with the possibilty of the use of the word "generally". I worked as a PG tech for 4 years and repacked 2 rocket systems out of around 800 repacks. i was asked to remove them from a few more. They are very rare and the top pilots that I know prefer to use cutaway systems with a direct freebagged RSL system. The rocket we used is good except that one could seriously injure or kill ones self or another on the ground due to a premature activation if one erred in packing or handling it. The vid at the start of the post was hot though don´t ya think? It out did me over hard ground, I am impressed, anyway take care, space
