wzettler 0 #1 December 19, 2003 In deciding if BASE is for me I am at the stage where I have been reading every post on this forum and Blinc as well as all the articles I can find. As I was reading a question came into my mind and I did a search on this BASE forum and couldn't seem to find an answer so I will ask: Is there a consensus as to the minimum exit altitude for a wingsuit BASE jump? I mean to get to full flight and do some flying before deployment? I understand that you could just jump with one and deploy right away, but that would add risk to the deployment and wouldn't be "worth" putting on the suit... Also, how much altitude does it generally take to get to full flight? Thanks in advance... Will I think when Jesus said "love your enemy" he probably meant don't kill them. Frodo 0 #3 December 20, 2003 Quote I believe it takes 6-8 sec to start flyingI heard this too, but when I watch the videos it seems more like 3-4 seconds. Check out for example this video, at 1:45. The guy "starts flying" (or so it looks to me) after 3 seconds.
TomAiello 26 #4 December 20, 2003 I once heard a wingsuit guru say he didn't see the point in putting the suit on below 1000 feet. I think the number is getting lower all the time, but depends on how well you fly the suit and what you consider enough flight time to be "worth" the added trouble of using the suit.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
outrager 6 #5 December 20, 2003 Yo ! Like Tom said, a rough number is somewhere around 1000 ft. It takes much less to start the suit (3..4sec or 300' vertical) but to really enjoy it you need to add another 300' for a safe deployment and some altitude for an actual flight between these two. bsbd! skypuppy 1 #6 December 20, 2003 Like Yuri said during the wingsuit seminar at Bridge Day, you want to deploy high enough that you can actually SEE what tree you're going to land in before you hit it...If some old guy can do it then obviously it can't be very extreme. Otherwise he'd already be dead. Bruce McConkey 'I thought we were gonna die, and I couldn't think of anyone
