JohnnyUtah 0 #7 October 30, 2003 Beany, I am a BASE instructor and teach First Jump Courses for BASE. I am having a BASE Camp November 24-27, 2003 at the Perrine Bridge in Twin Falls, Idaho. I also have a BASE Camp every spring in May. So if you can not make it this November, it will happen again next May. You can read more about this in the thread "FALL BASE CAMP 2003". Feel free to contact me with any questions. I will help you out however I can. Johnny Utah (01)(815) 228-9966 johnnyutah101@hotmail.com
Beany 0 #8 October 30, 2003 Skreamer, you seem to be someone I should talk too! No offence Johnny Utah but your too far away.
narcimund 0 #9 October 30, 2003 QuoteThanks for your reply but I want to here from serious base jumpers. You might want to consider phrasing yourself more carefully unless your goal is to piss people off. As well, QuoteWho is blinc? makes it sound like you haven't done your homework yet. Beany 0 #10 October 30, 2003 I don't see any problems with what I said. I have thought about this very seriously and want advice from experienced base jumpers.
skreamer 1 #11 October 30, 2003 QuoteSkreamer, you seem to be someone I should talk too! No, I only have 14 BASE jumps - I am not someone you should talk to. Here is the only advice I can give you : work overtime, get a second job, use a credit card and go do a FJC. I did mine at the bridge with BR, but I'm sure CR, Morpheus, Vertigo or JohnnyUtah's courses are all good. In fact $650 for Johnny's course is a GREAT price (if you are serious about doing it you really should be buying your own kit anyway - see above about credit cards, selling a kidney etc.). sum1sneaky 0 #15 October 30, 2003 My suggestion: Take a first jump course. It won't be any where close to all you'll ever need, but it will definately get you off on a better foot than the one you're on. Vertigo runs a good one: http://www.vertigobase.com/html/Page.asp?F=course.htm
Skinflicka 0 #16 October 30, 2003 Dear BASE community, I have decided that now is an appropriate time for you to accept me and train me. Who will step forward and do their sworn duty? Yours expectantly, Hugh Jasshole. Dude, seriously, you have to be hungrier than that. Study the info on the boards for a few months and decide if this is really for you. If you think Utah is too far away (either the state or Johnny) then you probably don't need to be thinking about this kind of venture. A FJC may help you decide but IMHO you need to have decided beyond question before you ever look over the edge wearing a rig. You're in a tough part of the world to get any help to BASE jump. 70 million+ people on that teeny island and jealously guarded (and quite rightly so) objects. Tread carefully grasshopper. BASE813 0 #17 October 30, 2003 You have done SO MUCH research that you have never posted on the UK board...................... being based in the UK I would think that was your first port of call............. - but don't expect a huge response to posts like "I am looking for a mentor" Knowing how insular and tight knit we are and also weary and bored of hearing people saying "I would love to do that........", "I want to do that", "I coulda done that" - you have a lot more work to do my friend before you are taken seriously............. Think seriously about your "TRUE" reasons for wanting this and whether you do have the commitment to do this - not having 100% commitment in my mind is ludicrous in this sport - you cant be a tourist in this game............. If your not willing to travel further than this windy green Island to find your dreams then you aint committed to it............... and you will find that is the easiest part of getting your goal.................. It may look cool on video - but most of the time its hardwork, cold, lonely, tiring and frightening............... is this what you really want?? .............. its just the way it is..............
