Lara Croft 2, Awesome BASE wingsuit footage!

Recommended Posts

Howdy all,

I just came back from watching the premiere of Lara Croft 2, Cradle of Life and there are a couple of scenes that feature BASE wingsuit jumping! B|

Lara and her partner jump off the tallest building in Hong Kong and what they planned to do was to jump from the baddies and wingsuit fly about 3 miles to the harbour and land on a shipping vessel.

It's quite cool when they jump and their suit inflates, but then it seems quite obvious that they kind of replayed their flying but changed the background to show how far forward they were flying.

They then proceeded to land on a shipping vessel very softly. I also noticed that the caopies opened very slowly. It seemed to me that it wasn't BASE packing and the canopies had double stacked cells (it was a yellow canopy).

Can anyone confirm this? Anyone know the real people who actually did the shot? I know it depends on the height you jump, but can one fly that far with a wingsuit???

Then there was another scene where she landed on a jeep that was moving forward and she was like still talking to the driver before she cut away her main canopy. Like the canopy is not going to suck you off the jeep!!! :|

The movie is pretty cool though so check it out when it comes out! :)

Actually I think that Perflare and Martin did the jumps, but I could be wrong, as he is a dead ringer for Angelina Jolie.

As I recall they used S3's and Flik's in the 280 range.

You could just PM Perflare and ask.

Edit to add: Here is the march thread from the wingsuit forum discussing it.

P.S. Check out his excellent web page.

Yeah, that was Per and Martin. It looks like they did the BASE jump, and the wingsuit footage came from a skydive. They wouldn't be able to make it 3 miles from that building. You eat up almost 8,000 feet vertically traveling 3 miles horizontally on the S3. I don't think they changed the background. They probably used an 80mm lens from a helicopter to make the background appear closer, giving the illusion of less altitude. Just my theory.

and after what i saw they jumped off the B whiht out the suit on,then sudenly they use it..

I also just saw a crappy movie called freefall(whith Eric roberts),made after Cliffhanger. its about love to a guy who do BASE,actualy you only see one jump and one landing(whith a 9cell i think, whith kill line on the pc and colaps on the sail slider..)i just hate to see that kind of stuff in movies, like making a movie about driving cars in a specific cuntry, and if you know the rules then they drive in the wrong site of the roadB|>:(

i think the best shot i ever saw in a movie, were the BASE in trible X....

Stay safe

Awww, c'mon. Per said they were getting delays as deep as six seconds. Surely that's enough time to fly 3 miles? They are Swedish, after all.

I think the best bit is that they run up to the edge of the building, obviously with no wing suit on and then out pop the wings.

I bet a lot of wing flyers would kill for a suit that automatically deploys itself, would save them waddleing about like penguins and if the suit could automatically reverse the deployment mechanism it would make mals easier to deal with.

Perhaps the makers of Toom Rader could let on how they managed to develop the suit so radiacally.

I think they put zippers on the wing (between the leg and the wing), and unzipped it for the "action stance" bit. They discussed it in the (generally wildly inaccurate) USA Today article, which has been the topic of such lively discussion over in the wingsuit forum.

They jumped the building without wings and after a couple of seconds they "magically" streched out the wings hidden in the arms and legs B|

The exit altitude for the buildingjumps was 370m (1250ft). Five 2-ways and five 3-ways were made. On the 2-ways they did a couple of 8 second delays and opened 60m (200ft) from the building!
