Bustet

Recommended Posts

I havent tryet(and hopefuly wont try),but i were wondering what you guys do if you get busted in the tower.. do you make the jump(if alti alow it),or do you climb down to get your ticket?(most thinking of A).
I guess its both good and bad.If you jump the officer migth just forget to write the ticket,or he gets even more mad and write you for the double.. any?

got this thinking after i saw a group get busted(we saw them film down at the police car),next they are down there. But i also once saw 2 guys who jumped anway and landed just by the police who seemed werry freindly(but looked like a ticket on the way any way).
Let´s hear some funny storryes, but NO NAMING NAMES thanks;)

hah, this made me laugh, as I was thinking about what I would do if I ever got "bustet" by the police while making it to the exit point. It's easy to say typing at the keyboard that you would go ahead and jump, but maybe harder when a policeman is shining a highpowered flashlight on your ass. Also, I think climbing a little higher to get altitude for the jump would be construed as resisting arrest, and jumping could possibly be construed as reckless endangerment. I'd be curious about the stories though B|

You're not caught 'till you're caught. I run, fly, drive, or whatever else I can do until they tackle me and haul my ass to jail.

If you're high enough that you can't hear them, then I don't think they can say you were resisting arrest. Makes for an interesting new line...

"Don't look down - the cops might be down there trying to get your attention..." Or, something along those lines.

Besides, you had to jump, 'cause you were too tired from climbing up to safely climb down. And, you only brought your BASE rig along, in case you fell during the climb. You know - safety first, and all.

I even know a dentist who takes his when he's checking out the roof of tall buildings... In case he falls off.

Read the last issue of the CJAA's Rockhopper. This exact scenario happened to us and was written about.

Luckly, we jumped and got away. Unfortunately, our ground crew got lost 30 minutes later and ended up driving right back to Deputy Dog himself.

It's a long story, but we were not busted.......

I'll still count it as a happy ending.

In DK i max get a ticket for traspassing,i see no way to run from that(how ever they wil caugt me any way while im the only in this region, and many at dz knows i do it.It migth beanother case elsewere when they try to put me in jail(but then again i hate their guns.. but belive me ill try..)
I were more thinking in the case your in an A,they has parked just under it.lets say your on your way to 1000ftbut has been called down.there is a nice platform at 800ft.Would you jump it or would you climb down? You know that nomatter they will get you down there..
will it pay off to climb down or is it worth it to jump?

IMO, if they have you "cornered" so to speak, it's worth it to comply with them and cooperate. All bets are off though if your group is scattered and theyre trying to round people up. It really depends on the situation, I guess. After doing a few illicit activities you get the feel for when you should yield and when you should run. It's a judgement call, I suppose. But then again, I've never BASE jumped before, so my opinion is worth shit all, but I have done other things within the grey area of the law before which might be compareable to BASE jumping...

>>>what follows is a story about climbing cliffs, not A's... so don't read unless you've got nothing better to do with your next 5 minutes!
One time my climbing partner and I were "inadvertantly" climbing on a tall crag that was in a closed area of the wilderness.:o (We never saw any signs or anything - so we just went along climbing:ph34r:)

Anyhow, after we're about 450' up we could here someone yelling up at us.. I looked down from a hanging belay to see a park ranger screaming up at me - trying hard to throw his voice. He told us to come down imediately! I just kept sayin, "WHAT?!"... as if we couldn't hear him. B|We went along our business and he kept yelling, "come down imedemummumble"! One time I yelled back, "NOT ENOUGH GEAR!" He yelled back, "Looks like your doing pretty good to me!":D... we laughed and kept on climbing. It took us another hour to top out, an hour to walk down, then two hours to walk back to our car. There were now two park ranger cars parked by our car so we sneeked up to see what they were doing...

One is sitting in the hatchback of his cherokee, shooting at chipmunks with a sling-shot >:(, the other is missing - he later came back from relieving himself of his jumbo pepsi sitting on his dash. We thought about waiting it out to see if they'd leave, but we were tired and thirsty... so we just snuk up as quiet as possible from the right angle, then hurriedly jumped in the car and by that time the guy with the slingshot ran out in front and started yelling as loud as he could... he had one hand on his gun![:/] What a dick. the other guy shows up and opens my friend's door. bustet! B|

try as we may to explain why we didn't know the area was closed - it didn't work and the guys produced a sign saying it was closed and said they knew we'd torn it out of the ground and wrote us both tickets for that too. $370 bucks or a day in court far far away so we paid and complained at the bar for the next four years.:D

I think no matter what you do the heat will give you the ticket they were there to give you. I think if we'd repelled down we'd have got a ticket and an uncomfortable escort back to our car. I say that if the conditions are right, your mind can stay focused on the task, and you don't think they'll shoot at you - JUMP!
If you think you can out run them - RUN!

when they catch you do this: :P and know that they'll never have as much fun catching you as you will running.

just my 1cent

he he well one i jumped this A near a highway, some cars pulled in as they saw my canopi out(oppersit direction of were my care were),as i landed i could see some persons running against me(migth 1km out)I quick put my gear in my stashbag, turned around and started to run against my car(aprox 3km from there),while i were running and laughing(there were no way they ever would catch me unless i felf and broke somthing),i picked up my cellphone and called my gf to tell i were ok(it were a solo),we had alot fun while i had that run.Thouse who ran after me stoped around the A,and walked back to their cars.I quickly got into the car and headed against the highway, while i got down there i could see the people get into their cars and drived away.thats the closest i have been to a bust, and we can still jump itB|
To burn an object would be most painful thing for me so i were quit happy it didnt happen.(and yes i had talked to the locals about how to jump it;))

What I have heard, is:
"Never go to jail with a packed rig".
True, not everyone goes to jail for jumping. But, I understand this to mean that once at exit point with good conditions, make the jump.
Something like they can take your gear away, and they can take your freedom away, and they can fine you, BUT they can never take the jump away. So if you are in that situation, go for it....make the jump. And be respectful when busted.

I've never been in this situation, But have often thought about how I'd react if I was on my way up and the MAN showed up and demanded I come back down.

I just recently climbed back down off of a 600 footer for the first time a few nights ago because of freaky winds (hey T.M. wish you could have been there, hope you're having fun in TF by the way).

That climbing back down shit sucks. If the winds are right, I ain't climbing back down for no one. I figure my survival chances are greater if I make the jump, rather than climbing back down.
Besides, If HE catches you on the thing, you're already in trouble whether you jump or not, right? Might as well give him a show.

Maybe he'll be so impressed that I'm a BASE jumper, he'll forget all about it.

Yea right.

He hee... I like that phrase!

So, I wonder if they'd let you pack in the cooler?

lol

No I think they'd probably confiscate your rig since you would be likely to escape by opening it in your cell and going up through the roof :S:D

Yeah, the last cell I was in wasn't big enough to pack in anyway. :(

make these "knots"on the lines, that will shorten them alot, and need not much space..just be sure thatnext time you jump theres plenty of space to offheaddingsB|

I'm not a base jumper, but back in the day I was a bungee jumper and pirating bridges. So here is a trick I learned to keep from getting busted.

Tresspassing is a real minor offense. If the cops show up and you have sufficient time. IE: halfway up the tower....Make a call and give the cops something better to do... If you get what I'm saying.

Make sure it's something they can't prove didn't happen. IE: Screams coming from a house, use your imagination.

This does work in small communities where there isn't an abundant number of police officers to handle calls.

Also, did you know that you can make 911 calls from any cell phone even if there is no service. This makes it untraceable back to you. I lost that phone 3 years ago.
