bgy8nas 0 #1 December 25, 2003 This may be trivial but id rather be sure. Whilst checking my new rig I noticed that if I take hold of the cutaway pad in one hand and the cables in the other I can pull the cables out of the pad by about 1-2 cm. I can also see the cables moving inside the pad. I just want to be sure that that is normal. Can anyone tell me how the cables are held within the pad, I think if I new how it was put together I would be less nervous. I will show this to a rigger at the weekend but any responses sooner would be much appreciated. Happy xmas Nick
skybeergodd 0 #2 December 25, 2003 Completely normal....most of the time the cable is just in a big long loop and depending on who manufactured it, it has a metal sleeve or plastic tube it passes thru. Thats a pretty crude description of the inside of one but it should give you a basic idea.
riggerrob 643 #3 December 25, 2003 Yes, the release cables are just one long, continuous loop that is attached to a piece of tape or webbing inside the handle. A nicopress sleeve is squeezed around the cable to prevent it from slipping. The movement you see is just the fabric flexing and foam padding compressing. GravityGirl 0 #4 December 26, 2003 It is my understanding that a little give is beneficial. If it was tight against the handle, it would pull from the riser end when you pick up the rig by the shoulder/yoke. Just like your reserve cable has a bit of slack in it. Does that make sense? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

riggerrob 643 #6 December 27, 2003 4 to 6 inches of slack is normal with release cables.
