Frodo 0 #1 April 28, 2003 So let's say you want to jump all 4 typess of objects to get a BASE number. You have to find appropriate sites. Let's talk about accessibility and level of "protection" of the sites. A bridge seems the easiest - both in terms of safety and police issues. You can just walk onto the bridge and wait till nobody is around. A cliff - also relatively easy to avoid authorities if you're smart enough - they can't put a guard near each vertical cliff in the country, after all. Same goes to antennas - many of them are simply in the middle of nowhere. But what about buildings? All the tall ones are built for business or other important purposes, and should be guarded all the time. Including the roof I believe. So how do you overcome this obstacle? I'm not asking for step-by-step instructions, I'd appreciate any ideas or principles, and also all types of stories -- funny, scary, how you were/were almost busted, etc.
motherhucker 0 #2 April 28, 2003 be smarter than the cops. know your rights. and it does look suspicious if your standing on the middle of a bridge waiting for traffic to mellow. In short, be a stealthy motherfucker.
andy2 0 #3 April 28, 2003 I'm not going to tell you how to get your "B" because I don't even have one BASE jump yet! I will give you the obligatory answer that if you have to ask such a fundamental question as to how one accesses exit points then you probably don't have the right mentor. However, if you're like me, and you probably are judging your question, you want to know this kind of stuff BEFORE you get a mentor, making it that much easier. I'll await the answers from the experienced folks as much as you, but I just wanted to forewarn you in case you're one of the poor misguided people who thinks they can completely learn how to BASE jump from the net. This forum is a valuable resource, I hope you're using it the way it is intended! *edit - I don't mean this in a patronizing way at all, sorry if it came off that way --------------------------------------------- let my inspiration flow, in token rhyme suggesting rhythm... Getting access is really an art as much of a science, and the sport has historically had (Thor Alex, as an example) and has today (Tom, Jeb, Dwain) folks who are really good at getting access in a non-aggro manner. I do think that in some areas of the world object access is becoming a bit of a lost art - with more and more legal jumps, more and more jumpers have never really had to learn how to play the sneak 'n peek game. In any case, there's several encyclopedias worth of beta on access floating around in the collective unconscious of BASE. If you try to re-invent the wheel on that side of the sport, you'll certainly spend lots of time in jail, burn lots of objects, and generally make a big mess. Most folks aren't going to share these skills with just anyone walking in off the street; they'll generally come as part of the larger progression of mentorship. Peace, D-d0g+~+~+~+~ But this, surely, was the glory that no spirits, canine or human, had ever clearly seen, the light that never was on land or sea, and yet is glimpsed by the quickened mind everywhere. Any moderately large city has them. It's a fun way to see your city (and not just rooftops) from a new perspective. At the same time you'll learn how to be places you aren't supposed to without getting caught. And, in my limited experience (one bust and talking to others), actual arrests are rare if you aren't doing anything more illegal than trespassing, like carrying contraband or jimmying locks.
