akaGQ 0 #1 December 28, 2002 Ok just wanted to know...been reading up on the sport of B.A.S.E. and was wondering if they offer the FJC the day they open the bridge or else if you have to go somewhere else in order to take the FJC. Any help would be appreciated. Zennie 0 #2 December 28, 2002 They offer mini-seminars the day before, but I wouldn't really call the FJCs. You won't go away from them knowing how to pack, assess sites & conditions, etc. You will know what you need to jump the bridge. If you plan on doing more than jump the bridge, you should either find an experienced mentor (like I did) or take one of the FJCs from one of the BASE outfitters (Vertigo, CR, BR, etc.). - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon
skreamer 1 #3 December 28, 2002 Quote you should either find an experienced mentor (like I did) or take one of the FJCs from one of the BASE outfitters (Vertigo, CR, BR, etc.). Wouldn't it be an even better idea to do both? Do the FJC and then contine learning from a mentor? I like the idea of doing the FJC because A) the people who are teaching you have established credentials in the sport (unlike your buddy with 50 BASE jumps who takes you for your first BASE off a cliff in Europe... ) B) the people teaching you have plenty of experience in teaching BASE. Just because someone has loads of jumps doesn't automatically mean they will have the patience and time to teach you thoroughly. Will

Wouldn't it be an even better idea to do both? Of course that's the best way. Unfortunately it's not always an option. I'd love to go off about this but since there is a question about Bridge day. You can look here http://www.bridgeday.info/ if you want to ask direct questions click on the *Contact Us* tab fill it out and ask away. I think Jason Bell is the right person to ask the most questions to. Keep in Mind he May be leaping off Petronas right now so the it may take a week or 2 to get a response. Feel free to contact me about Bridge Day. I'll be glad to answer any questions that anyone has. Cya.(c)2010 Vertical Visions. Zennie 0 #6 December 30, 2002 QuoteWouldn't it be an even better idea to do both? Do the FJC and then contine learning from a mentor? Absolutely. What I meant to say was if you can't take the FJC, you should find a good mentor to teach you the ropes. The FJC isn't a substitute for a mentor, in fact, if you go to the Vertigo, CR, BR sites they'll tell you the training doesn't end there. One nice benefit of a FJC is that it helps you establish a network if you don't have one already. Then when you go home, hopefully you'll have a contact to continue learning with. But like others have said, some folks don't have the luxury or having a qualified mentor close by. This makes things more difficult (and dangerous). And that's where an FJC is particularly invaluable. - Z "Always be yourself... unless you suck." - Joss Whedon

In countries where the BASE population is small - it does not open doors. it still take alot of hard work to get with experienced people! just my 2 low altitude freefalls worth!!
